President Bola Tinubu has asked Senate President Godswill Akpabio to lead Nigeria’s official delegation to the Vatican for the funeral of Pope Francis.
Gatekeepers News reports that Pope Francis passed away from cerebral stroke and subsequent heart failure on Monday at the age of 88.
Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, announced this in a statement on Friday, 25 April.
The five-member delegation includes Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria; Matthew Hassan Kukah, Bishop of the Sokoto Diocese; Ignatius Ayua Kaigama, Archbishop of the Abuja Archdiocese; and the senate president.
They are scheduled to attend the funeral on Saturday at the Vatican and will deliver a formal letter of condolence to the acting head of the Vatican on behalf of President Tinubu.
