The federal government has announced that Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, will resume operations on Monday, following the early completion of emergency runway repairs.
Gatekeepers News reports that Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on 18 April, temporarily shut down the airport after a sudden and major rupture appeared in the asphalt surface at a critical part of the runway.
According to Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s director of public affairs and consumer protection; the repairs were initially scheduled to commence on April 22 and be completed by May 6, 2025. However, the rehabilitation work was finished ahead of schedule.
FAAN thanked airport users and stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during the closure and apologized for any inconvenience caused, emphasizing that the measures were necessary to ensure public safety.
