Nigerian Senate has established an 18-member committee responsible for overseeing the activities of the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.).

Gatekeepers Newreports that this initiative aims to enhance transparency and accountability within the state’s governance.

Senator Opeyemi Bamidele has been appointed as the chairman of the committee, which was announced by Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, during the resumption of plenary on Tuesday. Akpabio emphasised the importance of the committee’s mandate, noting that it plays a crucial role in ensuring effective legislative oversight in Rivers State.

He also mentioned that the committee’s composition might undergo adjustments after further consultations.

The committee members include Senators Adamu Aliero, Osita Izunaso, Osita Ngwu, Kaka Shehu, Aminu Abass, Tokunbo Abiru, Adeniyi Adebire, Sani Musa, Simon Lalong, Asuquo Ekpeyong, Adams Oshiomhole, Ireti Kingibe, Onyekachi, Idiat Adebule, Ide Dafinone, and Mohammed, alongside the Clerk of the Senate.

The Senate President has urged the committee to commence its oversight functions immediately, highlighting the urgency of their task. He reaffirmed the Senate’s commitment to maintaining democratic processes in Rivers State.
