Nigerian Pastor Omotoso Re-arrested In S’ Africa After Rape Acquittal

Timothy Omotoso, a Nigerian televangelist recently acquitted of rape charges, has been re-arrested in South Africa for allegedly breaching immigration act.

Gatekeepers News reports that the senior pastor of Jesus Dominion International was rearrested on Saturday by South African authorities in East London.

Fannie Masemola, national commissioner of South African Police Service (SAPS), confirmed the cleric’s arrest.

The Police Commissioner noted that the pastor would be charged with violation of immigration act and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

He said, “This morning at 05:00 in East London, members of the Department of Home Affairs Immigration Inspectorate together with the South African Police Services arrested Omotoso in the town just after the church.”

“He will be facing charges related to violation of the immigration act and will be appearing in court on Monday.”

“Home affairs will elaborate more on charges.
He is being arrested for violating the immigration act.”

Omotoso was previously arrested in April 2017 following multiple allegations by young women who accused him of s*xual misconduct and luring them into his home in Umhlanga.

After spending eight years in jail, Omotoso was acquitted in April 2025 by the Eastern Cape High Court.

The presiding judge, Irma Schoeman, ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt and criticised the state’s handling of the cross-examination.
