Troops Repel Suspected ISWAP Attack On Military Base In Borno

Troops of Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force (NAF), have repelled an attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists on the forward operating base (FOB) in Rann, Kala-Balge LGA of Borno state.

Gatekeepers News reports that Zagazola Makama, a counterinsurgency publication covering the Lake Chad region, revealed that the incident occurred on Wednesday morning when the terrorists, disguised as Fulani herdsmen, launched an attack on the military base.

Makama said the troops engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle. The battle prompted the deployment of an NAF fighter jet, which arrived at the scene mid-attack. Upon sighting the aircraft, the terrorists attempted to flee in different directions.

The report said the NAF pilot tracked and struck a group of fleeing insurgents escaping in a Hilux vehicle, killing several and destroying the truck.

Makama noted that the number of casualties among the insurgents was yet to be confirmed, adding that normalcy has been restored to the area following the intervention of the military.
