Neda Imasuen, senator representing Edo south, has announced his defection from Labour Party (LP) to All Progressives Congress (APC).
Gatekeepers News reports that speaking in Benin City, the Edo state capital, Imasuen cited internal party conflicts within the Labour Party as the reason for his departure.
Imasuen, who also chairs the Senate committee on ethics, privileges, and public petitions, revealed that he would formally join the ruling party on June 12.
He emphasised that the move is a strategic decision in line with the celebration of his second year in office, not driven by opportunism.
The senator said, “As chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics and public petitions, over 20 public petitions from across the country have been successfully resolved under my leadership.”
“These interventions have made a significant difference in the lives of ordinary Nigerians.”
Imaseun listed his achievements to include the bill for the establishment of the Federal College of Education, Abudu, and several constituency projects.
He also pointed to his efforts in launching vocational training schemes, agricultural support programmes, scholarships, and rural health initiatives targeted at traditional birth attendants.
The senator noted that his agricultural programmes have helped boost productivity in rubber, cocoa, and cashew farming across Edo South.
He added, “There are testimonies from farmers whose yields have improved significantly.”
The senator called for better collaboration with local governments to sustain ongoing development and pledged continued focus on youth empowerment, rural development, and alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s policies.
