Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed that the company’s long-awaited robotaxi service will launch on June 22 in Austin, Texas.
Gatekeepers News reports that service will use Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software under human supervision and will initially operate with 10-20 Model Y SUVs in limited zones.
Musk emphasised that the company is being “super paranoid about safety” and warned that the date could shift depending on final checks.
The robotaxi service will start small, with geofenced “safe zones” and pre-mapped routes. Each vehicle will be powered by the latest version of Tesla’s FSD software. This cautious approach aims to ensure a smooth and safe experience for passengers.
Musk also revealed plans for Tesla to autonomously deliver a vehicle from the factory to a customer’s home on June 28, marking a significant milestone for the automaker. This delivery will be entirely driverless, using Tesla’s new version of FSD technology.
The launch of Tesla’s robotaxi service is a pivotal moment that will test the company’s vision, technology, and ability to execute under immense public and regulatory scrutiny. With years of delayed timelines and speculation, Musk’s announcement has reignited global interest in Tesla’s autonomy program.
