Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump have reignited their public spat after weeks of relative silence following their dramatic fallout.
Gatekeepers News reports that the clash began when Musk criticized Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” on Monday, threatening lawmakers who supported the proposal.
“Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!” Musk tweeted on his social media platform X. “And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.” He also threatened to put lawmakers’ faces on posters labeled “liar” and “voted to increase America’s DEBT” by $5 trillion.
Trump responded swiftly, claiming Musk knew about his opposition to the electric vehicle mandate long before he endorsed him. “Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa,” Trump said on his Truth Social account.
“No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE.”
The feud has its roots in Musk’s role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a cost-cutting initiative launched during Trump’s re-election campaign.
Since January 20, DOGE has shrunk 11 federal agencies, resulting in 250,000 job losses, and claimed to have saved taxpayers $160 billion.
