Federal Government has announced a two-day national stakeholders forum scheduled for July 23 and 24 to address the ongoing issues surrounding petrol pricing and supply in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
Gatekeepers News reports that Francis Ogaree, Executive Director of Hydrocarbon Processing Plants, Installation, and Transportation Infrastructure at Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), made the announcement during a panel session at the 24th Nigeria Oil and Gas Energy Week in Abuja.
Ogaree revealed that the NMDPRA will convene the forum to bring together key players—including marketers, refiners, industry operators, and government representatives to deliberate on petrol pricing standards, feedstock availability, and strategies for stabilising the deregulated market in the post-subsidy era.
He stressed the importance of open dialogue in resolving pricing-related concerns and creating a consistent, transparent framework that encourages investment in local refining.
The director said, “ “I would like to remind you that the NMDPRA has only been in existence for three and a half years.
And in that period, we have achieved giant strides in the number of licenses we have given and in addressing the issues.”
“Even on the issue of petroleum pricing, which is another one that we are facing now and relates to standardisation. It is a work in progress, and that is why at the latter part of this month, exactly on July 23 to 24, a two-day event, we will be talking about petrol pricing.”
Ogaree acknowledged the sensitivity of fuel pricing, which varies globally, and reaffirmed NMDPRA’s commitment to developing a balanced and stable pricing system tailored to Nigeria’s economic context.
