Former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole has mourned the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as a heartbreaking moment for the nation.

Gatekeepers News reports that Buhari died on Sunday at a medical facility in London after a brief undisclosed illness.

In a statement on Sunday, Oshiomhole said Nigeria had lost more than a former head of state, it had lost a man defined by integrity, discipline, and moral courage.

Oshiomhole noted that although Buhari had human flaws, his steadfastness and simplicity stood out in an age increasingly consumed by the pursuit of wealth and power.

He said, “ Today is a very sad day for Nigeria.”

“President Buhari was a man who preached the truth, fought for the truth, and stood by the truth. Even when he had to compromise due to circumstances and exigencies, it was not for his personal gains but to assuage the agitations of his less principled and less conscientious political allies.”

“Irrepective of his shortcomings as a human being, he was exceptional in a world increasingly driven by the quest for wealth and influence. He remained a rare breed of principled leadership and simplicity.”

Oshiomhole reflected on Buhari’s enduring commitment to public service, from his early military leadership to his two-term democratic presidency, and said his life was marked by patriotism, modesty, and an unrelenting battle against corruption.

He said, “President Buhari lived a fulfilled life of piety and humility. His unblemished footprints are cast in gold on Nigeria’s historical landscape.”

“Even his critics acknowledge his personal discipline and dedication to national service. He will not be forgotten for generations to come.”

He encouraged Nigerians to find strength in Buhari’s legacy and emulate the late leader’s honesty, courage, and commitment to national service.

Speaking on behalf of his family and the people of Edo North Senatorial District, Oshiomhole offered prayers for the late president, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Aljannah Firdaus.
