Marcus Onobun, former speaker of Edo State House of Assembly and current representative of Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben federal constituency, has left Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined All Progressives Congress (APC).
Gatekeepers News reports that his resignation was announced in a resignation letter dated July 18 and addressed to the acting ward chairman of PDP in Esan West LGA.
The politician said his exit takes immediate effect. He explained that his decision followed extensive consultations with constituents and political stakeholders.
He blamed his departure on persistent internal crises, leadership instability, and unresolved divisions within the PDP, which he said have weakened the party’s ability to deliver on its founding mission and adequately serve Nigerians.
Onobun noted that although he had served the PDP diligently, he felt compelled to pursue a new direction that better supports development, unity, and effective governance.
The former speaker thanked the party for the opportunities it provided and appreciated the support of leaders and colleagues he had worked with.
His resignation was also communicated to the PDP’s acting local government, state, and national chairmen.
Onobun’s exit follows that of Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, director-general of the Asue Ighodalo campaign, who also resigned from the PDP, saying the party has strayed from its founding principles.
Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation magazine and former presidential candidate, also announced his resignation from PDP in a letter dated July 17.
