President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Kano on Friday to offer his condolences to the family of Aminu Dantata.
Gatekeepers News reports that the late business icon and philanthropist died on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the age of 94.
The president flew in from Abuja and was received at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport before proceeding to the Dantata family residence.
According to Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, Tinubu’s visit was necessitated by his absence from the country during Dantata’s passing and burial, which took place in Saudi Arabia.
Onanuga noted that the president had earlier delegated a team of ministers, led by the Defence Minister, to attend the burial on his behalf as a mark of honour.
Aminu Dantata, a prominent industrialist and the last surviving son of pre-independence merchant Alhassan Dantata, died in Abu Dhabi after a brief illness. He was buried in Medina, with a federal delegation present at the ceremony.
In a condolence message previously issued, President Tinubu described Dantata’s death as a great loss to the nation and praised his lifelong dedication to enterprise, charity, and national growth.
Dantata’s legacy includes decades of impact in Nigeria’s private sector, where he served on numerous corporate boards and invested extensively in community development, healthcare, and education.
The deceased’s philanthropic contributions touched lives across the country and cemented his reputation as a respected national figure.
The president is expected to return to Abuja later today after the visit.
