Lagos Firefighters Rescue Man Trapped In 80-Foot Well

Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has successfully rescued a 56-year-old man who was trapped in an 80-foot-deep well over the weekend.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement shared on its official X account on Tuesday, the agency revealed that the Ejigbo Fire Station received an emergency call reporting the incident, which occurred in the Ikotun area of Lagos.

Upon arrival, the rescue team discovered that the man had become stuck while working inside the deep well, located behind an eight-room bungalow on a property spanning approximately 648 square metres.

After several coordinated efforts, the firefighters were able to safely extract the man alive.

According to the agency, prior findings suggest the incident was likely due to negligence during the dangerous task.

Margaret Adeseye, Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, highlighted the importance of notifying emergency services before undertaking hazardous activities.

She noted that early communication enables the agency to provide necessary safety oversight and standby support to avoid such incidents.

The rescued man was reunited with his family and is in stable condition.

The Fire Service reiterated its call for residents to prioritise safety and seek professional assistance when dealing with potentially dangerous situations.
