Bolaji Abdullahi, interim national publicity secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), says the party is not structured to promote any individual’s political ambition. Speaking
Gatekeepers News reports that Abdullahi made the statement on Saturday during the third plenary of the Northern Political Consultative Group (NPCG) in Abuja, themed “Peace and Social Cohesion: A Panacea to Challenges of the North”.
Abdullahi clarified that the ADC has not initiated discussions concerning who its presidential candidate will be in the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the party is more concerned with building a robust political structure committed to national development, rather than rallying around any particular aspirant.
He said, “We don’t have any favourite aspirants or candidates. We are not having any conversation at the moment,”
“Nobody has ever had any conversation about who will be the party’s flag bearer.”
“We believe that it is too early in the day. Our focus now is to build a political party that is strong enough to deliver on the mission that we have set for ourselves.”
The former minister emphasised that ADC is working to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape by fostering a culture that places national interest above personal gains.
He reiterated that the party’s formation process intentionally avoids centering around any personality.
On the subject of serving Governors joining the party, he admitted that many are constrained by political pressure.
Abdullahi said, “No serving governor would be willing to cross over because of the intimidation that they are facing,”
“We know what they are doing to them. Some of them who cannot jump to their party are saying we are endorsing their presidential candidate.”
“ No problem. But what you are seeing is a conspiracy against the Nigerian people.”
