A single glittery sock worn by Michael Jackson during a concert in France in the 1990s has sold for over $8,000 at an auction.
Gatekeepers News reports that the sock, which was discarded near Jackson’s dressing room after a concert in Nimes in July 1997, was initially valued at $3,400 to $4,500 but fetched €7,688 ($8,822) at the Nimes auction house.
According to Aurore Illy, the auctioneer, the sock is “an exceptional object — even a cult one for Michael Jackson fans.”
The sock is part of Jackson’s iconic “HIStory World Tour” attire, featuring white athletic socks adorned with rhinestones. Despite being stained and yellowed with age, the sock remains a highly sought-after piece of memorabilia.
This sale is not the first time Michael Jackson’s memorabilia has fetched a high price. In 2009, a glittery glove he wore during a performance sold for $350,000, and in 2023, a hat he wore during a performance sold for over $80,000 in Paris.
As Illy noted, the sock is a rare and valuable piece of music history that will likely be cherished by collectors and fans alike.
