United States (U.S.) President Donald Trump has directed the deployment of two nuclear-powered submarines in response to escalating tensions with Russia.

Gatekeepers News reports that this marks a sharp intensification of what initially began as a digital exchange with Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev over Ukraine and trade tariffs.

What started as a social media spat turned into a tangible military maneuver when Trump, posting on his Truth Social platform, cited “highly provocative statements” as the reason behind the move.

He said, “ I ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that.”

“Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences. I hope this will not be one of those instances.”

This show of military strength comes as Trump imposed a deadline for Russia to take concrete steps toward ending the war in Ukraine by the end of next week or face new, unspecified sanctions.

Despite U.S. pressure, Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine continues unabated. An AFP report revealed that Russia launched a record number of drone strikes on Ukraine in July. Russian attacks have killed hundreds of civilians in recent weeks, including 31 people: five of them children in a missile and drone strike on Kyiv on Thursday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, reiterated his firm stance, stating that while he seeks peace, his terms for ending the conflict remain unchanged including Ukraine relinquishing occupied territories and abandoning its NATO aspirations.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, commenting on the ongoing war, emphasised that only Putin has the power to stop the bloodshed. He once again called for direct talks.
