Former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has expressed confidence that he can defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election if he emerges as the candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Gatekeepers News reports that speaking on Saturday during a conversation on X Spaces, Amaechi claimed he has never engaged in election rigging and has repeatedly turned down offers to serve on All Progressives Congress (APC) election planning committees.
He said, “I tell you, l’ve not had an election against Tinubu. I know Tinubu very well. I know his strengths. I know his weaknesses. And I know that if allowed to fly the flag of ADC, I will defeat Tinubu for sure.”
The politician challenged any politician, past or present, to present proof of his involvement in electoral malpractice, vowing to apologise if such evidence emerges.
Amaechi alleged that election rigging often involves state governors and the diversion of public funds through government agencies.
Amaechi also acknowledged that Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, won in Rivers State during the 2023 election, but noted that the official results told a different story. “How it happened, I have no idea,” he said.
He said, “I would agree to an extent that Peter Obi won in Rivers state, but unfortunately, the result that came out was different. How it happened, I have no idea.”
Earlier on July 3, Amaechi declared his willingness to serve only one term if he becomes president in 2027, arguing that Nigeria should maintain the informal rotational arrangement of eight years for the south and eight years for the north to ensure stability.
