A disturbing case of bullying has been reported at Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, involving an ND1 Science Laboratory Technology student identified as Gift Ehichoya.
Gatekeepers News reports that video posted on Facebook by user Etu Mikky Voice shows Gift being physically assaulted by about three female students, alleged to be her classmates, while others stood by watching and recording.
Witnesses in the footage were heard telling the attackers to take her outside to avoid damaging property. She was then dragged outdoors, thrown into the mud, and beaten again.
According to reports, the incident stemmed from an argument in the class WhatsApp group, where an anonymous presence was noticed.
After Gift made a comment, a fellow student allegedly mocked her, saying she should remain silent if her family had contributed to buying her phone. Gift reportedly responded that she preferred her family buying her phone to those who engaged in hookup to afford one.
The disagreement reportedly escalated offline. On the day of their last exam, some students allegedly traced Gift to her hostel and assaulted her.
The Facebook post called on the school management and the Nigeria Police Force to take immediate action.
The Rector of Auchi Polytechnic, Shehu S. Umar, responded in the comment section requesting full details of the incident, to which Etu Mikky Voice promised to provide them promptly.
The school management is yet to officially comment on the incident as at of the time of filling this report.
