Legacy FM 95.1 in Ebonyi State has suspended its acting General Manager, Godfrey Chikwere, over alleged unruly behaviour and breach of the station’s code of conduct.
Gatekeepers News reports that on Facebook, Chikwere had accused the state Governor, Francis Nwifuru of tolerating underperforming appointees, lamenting that Ebonyi’s perception index was “low and dwindling daily at a very embarrassing level.”
Chikwere also alleged that some of the Governor’s aides spent work hours engaging in sports instead of supporting the administration.
Governor’s spokesman, Monday Uzor, fired back, claiming Chikwere was working to suppress the rising profile of Ebonyi State”l despite the station’s heavy reliance on government support.
Uzor noted that the Governor had donated a Changan SUV, a transformer, and a road leading to the broadcasting house.
He added, “But rather than give at least balanced coverage of government activities, it has been turned into a slaughterhouse of the governor’s genuine development efforts and goodwill. What a way to be ungrateful to good deeds.”
In a statement on Saturday, the management directed Chikwere to hand over all company property to the next senior officer, following his repeated public criticism of the Governor.
It reads, “The management of Legacy FM 95.1, The Sound of Now, hereby suspends the acting General Manager, Godfrey Chikwere, with immediate effect, till further notice.”
“This is due to unruly behaviour and disobedience to the code of conduct guiding the Legacy FM.”
“With such effect, he is hereby directed to hand over all the company property in his position to the next senior officer.”
