The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended Adefolusho Aanu Olasele, also known as Abbas Ajakaiye, the founder and general overseer of The Turn of Mercy Church in Lagos, over allegations of orchestrating multiple shipments of illicit drugs into Nigeria.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said Olasele was arrested on August 3 at his church in Okun Ajah, Ogombo Road, Lekki, after evading arrest for months and fleeing to Ghana. Operatives moved in after he concluded Sunday service.
Babafemi disclosed that the cleric had twice escaped arrest following the seizure of two cannabis shipments linked to him, 200kg on June 4 at Okun Ajah beach and 700kg on July 6 from his delivery van.
Olasele allegedly admitted to transporting the drugs through waterways from Ghana into Nigeria.
In related operations, NDLEA operatives on August 7 raided an apartment in Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, arresting Benjamin Udo Ukoh and recovering 15.63kg of Canadian Loud.
Other seizures included 3,093kg of skunk in Nasarawa, 359kg of skunk in Kano, 9kg of Colorado cannabis, 20,000 tramadol pills, and 200 diazepam ampoules.
Additionally, raids in Gombe and Bauchi states led to the recovery of over 550,000 opioid pills and the arrest of multiple suspects.
