ADC Condemns PDP Governors For Holding Meeting In Zamfara After Mass Killings

African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned Governors of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for holding a political meeting in Zamfara State, only days after scores of residents were killed in a series of attacks.

Gatekeepers News reports that Zamfara has suffered repeated assaults by armed groups, with recent reports indicating that 144 people were kidnapped, 24 killed, and 16 others injured across several local government areas. Despite this, PDP Governors gathered in the state on Saturday, August 23.

In a statement released on Sunday by Bolaji Abdullahi, its national publicity secretary, the ADC described the PDP Governors’ action as both insensitive, and disrespectful to the victims, adding that images from the meeting reflected poor judgment.

It said, “Instead of the governors to rally around their beleaguered colleague to help stop the orgy of killings, they chose to stage a political rally at the scene of mass murder, even if it meant trampling on the memory of the victims.”

“The photos of PDP Governors in full ceremonial robes, grinning for the camera is totally out of place in an environment that still reeks of so much blood and sorrow.”

“This act alone further underlines an important fact: neither the ruling APC nor the incurably afflicted PDP care about the people and their suffering. They only care about power and politics.”

The ADC also criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, holding him responsible for the worsening insecurity in Zamfara and neighboring Katsina.
