Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has signed a two-year framework agreement with Global Cooperation Promotion Research Centre (GCPRC) to strengthen sustainable road infrastructure development in Nigeria.
Gatekeepers News reports that the agreement, concluded on August 20 at FERMA’s headquarters in Abuja, formalises cooperation between the two institutions.
GCPRC, an international think tank created in Nigeria in February 2025 under the supervision of the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, focuses on promoting partnerships, advancing global cooperation, and deepening Nigeria-China relations.
Under the deal, FERMA and GCPRC will work together on federal road repairs, transportation security, and road asset management.
The partnership, which can be renewed after the initial two years, aims to incorporate global best practices especially China’s expertise in road construction and management to accelerate the modernisation of Nigeria’s transport infrastructure.
The initiative will also prioritise technology transfer, innovation, and training to improve Nigeria’s long-term capacity to manage and maintain its road networks.
FERMA’s managing director, Emeka Agbasi, said the collaboration represents a significant milestone, as it positions the agency to integrate global best practices in road asset management and maintenance technology.
He noted that the agreement would not only improve the safety and quality of federal roads but also enhance Nigeria’s capacity to sustainably manage critical infrastructure in the years ahead.
