National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 50-year-old Ifeoma Henrietta Ezewuike for attempting to traffic 1.3 kilogrammes of cocaine while disguising with a fake pregnancy.
Gatekeepers News reports that according to the agency, Ezewuike, a widowed mother of one and owner of Golden Star Creation, a fashion outfit in Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos, was apprehended on Friday at a bus terminal in Jibowu, Yaba.
She was reportedly on her way to deliver the drug consignment to buyers in Abuja. A subsequent search of her residence in Ago Palace led to the discovery of 200 grams of a cutting agent commonly used in processing a strain of cocaine.
Investigations revealed that Ezewuike claimed to have inherited the drug trade from her late husband, who died two years ago, while she has simultaneously run her fashion business for two decades.
In a related operation, NDLEA operatives intercepted 90 parcels of Loud, a strain of cannabis weighing 48.6kg, concealed in three cartons of kitchen sinks.
The consignment, imported from the United States, was seized at a courier company in Lagos on August 19 by officers from the Directorate of Operation and General Investigation (DOGI).
Elsewhere in Adamawa, NDLEA officers raided the home of a notorious dealer, Idris Garba, at Rumde Baru, Yola South, on August 22. Garba managed to escape by scaling a fence, but his associate, 55-year-old Boniface Nnaji, was arrested while attempting to flee.
The operation led to the recovery of a Toyota Thundra jeep and a Toyota Yaris, along with 354,480 pills of tramadol of varying strengths.
In Kogi State, NDLEA operatives also intercepted 5,000 capsules of tramadol, 400 ampoules of pentazocine injection, and 200 ampoules of diazepam injection from a suspect identified as Neche Okonkwo.
The seizure was made at the Idah waterside after Okonkwo ferried the opioids across the River Niger from Onitsha, Anambra, into Lokoja on August 20.
NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa commended the officers for their successful operations and urged personnel nationwide to sustain the agency’s balanced approach to drug control.
