Many Feared Trapped As 3-Storey Building Collapses In Lagos

A three-storey building under construction in Alagomeji area of Yaba, Lagos state, collapsed on Friday evening, leaving an unspecified number of people trapped inside.

Gatekeepers News reports that on Saturday, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed that four individuals had been rescued alive and taken to hospital, while the number of those still trapped remains unclear.

It said, “While eyewitness accounts vary, with some saying six people were trapped and others reporting five, emergency responders have so far rescued four adult males alive and taken them to hospital for treatment.”

Rescue officials from NEMA, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and other emergency bodies are continuing search and rescue efforts.

NEMA added, “As of press time, the exact number of persons still trapped remains unconfirmed, but efforts are ongoing to locate and evacuate survivors.”

“Emergency officials have cordoned off the site to ensure safety and smooth rescue operations.”

“The search and rescue operation is continuing into the night with responders assuring that no effort will be spared to save lives.”
