In a searing rebuke of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Alhaji Isa Sadiq Achida, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Sokoto State, has described Tambuwal’s eight years in office as a “disastrous era of stagnation, deception, and asset stripping.”
In an exclusive interview, Achida said Tambuwal refused to hand over officially to Governor Ahmed Aliyu because it would be on record that he handed over a collapsed state, crippled by abandoned projects, mismanaged resources, questionable debts, and widespread corruption.
“Tambuwal sold everything from government houses, to shares belonging to Sokoto State and there is absolutely nothing to show for the money. Rather he left government in shame- he couldn’t bring himself to officially handover to Governor Aliyu. That’s how disgraceful his exit was,” Achida stated.
According to the Chairman, Aminu Tambuwal engaged in a deliberate and organized disorder to ensure that the Governor Aliyu administration failed.
He praised the current administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for restoring financial order and infrastructure development without taking a single loan, unlike his predecessor.
“Ahmed Aliyu is a disciplined financial expert. Since he took office, salaries are paid on or before the 21st of every month, the new minimum wage has been implemented, and major infrastructure projects are ongoing and are all funded without borrowing a Kobo, because he is interested in the welfare of the people and not in looting their resources.”
Achida then turned to Tambuwal’s troubled political history, citing his long-standing reliance on powerful political godfathers, such as Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, and others to win elections.
“Tambuwal has never had a political base of his own. He rose on the back of people like Wamakko. Even his governorship re-election in 2019 was deeply controversial,he won by a mere 342 votes. That’s not a victory for an incumbent candidate. The entire state remembers the tension, the irregularities, and the behind-the-scenes maneuvering that saw him declared as winner.”
He further alleged that Tambuwal’s 2023 senatorial win was also marred by electoral fraud, including manipulated figures from his local government area, and alleged abuse of state resources.
“The truth is, Tambuwal has never won a truly free and fair election. We know how he won his 2023 senatorial election. Now that he no longer controls the state apparatus, he knows that in 2027 elections he can’t repeat the same magic.”
According to Achida, Tambuwal will not contest in 2027 because the manipulative environment he once thrived in is gone and gone forever.
“He knows he can’t survive a clean election in Sokoto State. His influence has collapsed. The APC has exposed his failures, and the people have moved on.”
Achida concluded by declaring Tambuwal “politically retired,” stating that no Abuja alliance, no media propaganda, and no recycled coalition can revive a politician whose only legacy is a collapsed state and propaganda.
