Nigeria Begins Early Preparations For 2026 Hajj – Secures 95000 Slots

Barely weeks after the conclusion of the 2025 pilgrimage, Nigeria has already commenced preparations for the 2026 Hajj, with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) adopting an early start to avoid the logistical challenges that marred past exercises.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the commission confirmed that 95,000 slots have been allocated to Nigeria, and it is now working in line with the operational calendar released by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

According to the timetable, early contracting and payments for essential services must be completed between September 6 and 23, 2025, while September 24 marks the final deadline for accommodation and transportation contracts. All contracts are to be finalised by January 4, 2026, ahead of the April 16 commencement of pilgrims’ departure.

Prof. Abdullahi Saleh Usman, NAHCON chairman, is currently leading a high-level delegation in Saudi Arabia to secure accommodation and transport agreements ahead of schedule. His team has already met with key service providers, including Mashariq Dhahabiya—the firm that handled Masha’ir services in 2025—to negotiate better terms for Nigerian pilgrims.

Beyond logistics, NAHCON is also pushing a digital transformation drive and expanding the Hajj Savings Scheme through new banking partnerships. The commission is urging early deposits and remittances from intending pilgrims while strengthening collaboration with State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards and licensed tour operators.

Backed by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, NAHCON says the proactive approach is designed to place Nigeria at the forefront of Hajj management in Africa, with pilgrims’ welfare as its top priority.
