Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ajao Adewale, has ordered a “discreet and comprehensive investigation” into the armed robbery incident that led to the death of Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a news anchor and producer with Arise Television.

Gatekeepers News reports that popularly known as Sommie, reportedly died after jumping from her apartment in a four-storey building during the robbery at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja on Monday. A security guard injured in the incident also died later in hospital.

In a statement on Tuesday, Josephine Adeh, spokesperson of the FCT police command, said Adewale had directed the deployment of intelligence and operational assets to track down the perpetrators.

“Describing the incident as a cruel and senseless act that has no place in a sane society, the Commissioner of Police assured that the Command remains fully committed to ensuring that justice is served,” the statement read.

The police chief also commiserated with Maduagwu’s family, friends, and colleagues at Arise TV, urging residents of the FCT to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities to security operatives.

“He further directed the deployment of intelligence and operational assets to identify, track, and apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime.
While assuring residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to public safety and the prevention of similar occurrences, the CP called on members of the public to support ongoing investigations by providing timely and useful information to the police,” Adeh said.
