Wike – Fubara – Rivers Assembly Members Hold Meeting In Port Harcourt

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, convened a high-level meeting on Saturday in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Gatekeepers News reports that the gathering included key political figures such as Martins Amaewhule, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly; Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, Chairman of the Rivers State Elders Council; as well as members of the Rivers State caucus in the National Assembly, state party leaders, and other loyalists.

The meeting in Port Harcourt is widely seen as a symbolic step toward healing longstanding divisions within Rivers’ politics. According to the Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communication, the event signified that the Political Family in Rivers State is fully united.

While the exact agenda of the meeting was kept private, insiders suggest that reconciling factions and ensuring peace after the recent emergency rule were key concerns.

Sources say that Governor Fubara officially announced the dissolution of his cabinet during the session, as part of efforts to reset the administration under new governance dynamics.

The meeting follows Fubara’s earlier visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where he reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining stability in Rivers State and sought support for preventing political relapse.

Observers interpret the meeting as a move to implement aspects of the peace agreement brokered by President Tinubu, which had been a condition for the resumption of normal governance after months under emergency rule.

The return of political normalcy in Rivers was mandated by President Tinubu on September 17, ending an emergency rule in force since March 18, 2025.

In his remarks, Fubara indicated that the political crisis that led to his suspension was now behind them, and he stated that he had reconciled with his predecessor.

Photos from the meeting were posted on social media by Lere Olayinka, media aide to the FCT Minister, highlighting the gathering’s message of unity.

The development is expected to influence forthcoming decisions on the composition of the state executive, reconciliation efforts across party factions, and movement toward governance stability in Rivers State.
