The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the case involving Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to October 16.
Gatekeepers News reports that the adjournment of the case follows a delay in the submission of a medical report by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
NMA had informed the court that its panel was yet to conclude the assessment of Kanu’s health condition. Before that, Justice James Omotosho ordered the NMA president to form an eight- to ten-member panel to determine the IPOB leader’s medical state and evaluate whether the Department of State Services (DSS) facility could adequately handle his treatment.
Kanu had previously alleged that his health had worsened in custody, citing liver and pancreatic complications, a lump under his arm, and low potassium levels. However, the prosecution maintained that he has been receiving proper medical care while in detention.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, prosecution counsel Suraj Sa’ada requested additional time for the medical panel to complete its review, a motion the defence counsel, Onyechi Ikpeazu, did not oppose.
Following the submission, Justice Omotosho adjourned the matter until October 16 for further hearing.
