Police Seize 387 Blocks Of Suspected Cannabis From Crashed Car In Bauchi

Bauchi State Police Command has seized 387 blocks of suspected cannabis sativa from a vehicle involved in a fatal crash in Toro Local Government Area of the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that during the official handover of the confiscated items to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday, Sani Omolori-Aliyu, the state commissioner of police, said the incident occurred on October 4 in Wom village and involved two white Toyota Corolla cars.

According to Omolori-Aliyu, one of the vehicles — ABC-459LF — was driven by Ali Muhammad, 45, who was conveying the District Head of Nabardo, Suleiman Suleiman, 65, and his family from Bauchi metropolis to Nabardo village.

The second vehicle, with registration number GWA-155GW, was operated by an unidentified driver coming from Jos, Plateau State, en route to Bauchi.

He explained that preliminary findings indicate the collision was caused by a dangerous overtaking attempt, which led to serious injuries among the passengers.

All victims were rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) for medical attention, where the district head remains under treatment for a fractured leg.

Following the crash, police officers discovered multiple blocks of the suspected illegal substance hidden inside the wrecked vehicle. The commissioner said efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing driver.

Omolori-Aliyu said, “We invite anyone with

information that could aid in this investigation to contact us and we assure citizens that we are resolutely focused on ensuring justice is achieved.”

Hussaini Umar, NDLEA deputy commandant, commended the police for their swift response and assured that both agencies would work closely to track down the suspect and ensure accountability.
