Trump Unveils 130% Tariffs On Chinese Goods

Donald Trump

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to impose an additional 100% tariff on imports from China, raising the total tariff rate to 130%.

Gatekeepers News reports that the new measure is expected to take effect on November 1 or earlier, marking a sharp escalation in trade hostilities between Washington and Beijing.

In a post shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump said, “The United States of America will impose a Tariff of 100% on China, over and above any Tariff that they are currently paying. Also, on November 1st, we will impose Export Controls on any and all critical software.”

The proposed tariffs will primarily affect electronics, clothing, and furniture, which comprise a large portion of U.S. imports from China.

Analysts say Trump’s decision follows Beijing’s tightening of export controls on essential rare earth materials, which are crucial to the production of advanced electronics.

In response to the escalating tensions, Trump reportedly called off a planned meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which was expected to take place later this month in South Korea.

The announcement rattled investors on Friday, with markets reacting negatively to the potential repeat of past tariff surges — particularly the 2019 trade war period, when duties on Chinese goods reached record highs.
