Katanga – Lisabi Dominate 2025 AMAA Nominations

The Africa Film Academy (AFA), organisers of Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), have unveiled the list of nominees for the 2025 edition during a press conference held at BON Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

Gatekeepers News reports that Burkina Faso’s Katanga: Dance of the Scorpions leads the nominations with ten nods, followed closely by Nigeria’s Lisabi: The Uprising with seven.

In the Best Film category, eight African countries will compete, including Algeria’s Algiers, Nigeria’s 3 Cold Dishes and Lisabi: The Uprising, South Africa’s The Heart Is a Muscle, Uganda’s Small Gods, Ethiopia’s For Love, For Land, For Power, Burkina Faso’s Katanga: Dance of the Scorpions, and Ghana’s Last Stop.

The 21st edition of the awards will be held on November 9, 2025, at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Ikeja, Lagos.

Nigeria also made a strong showing in several categories, with Lisabi, 3 Cold Dishes, and Freedom Way earning multiple nominations in cinematography, direction, and screenplay.

Lateef Adedimeji was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in Lisabi: The Uprising, while Osas Ighodaro, Fat Toure, and Maud Guerard received nods for Best Actress in a Leading Role for their work in 3 Cold Dishes.

Other standout films include South Africa’s The Heart Is a Muscle, Uganda’s Small Gods, and Ethiopia’s For Love, For Land, For Power, which also received several technical and performance nominations.

The organisers said the 2025 AMAA will celebrate Africa’s growing global influence in cinema, with nominees representing over 20 African countries and diaspora collaborations.
