Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has mocked recent defectors from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Gatekeepers News reports that Wike said their decision to join All Progressives Congress (APC) proves that his critics have now followed the same path they once condemned.
Speaking on Monday, Wike said those who previously accused him of betraying the PDP are now the ones aligning with the ruling party, describing their defection as proof that his political choices were justified.
He said, “I’ve been watching people who said I wanted to destabilise the PDP. I was accused of working for the APC, and now all of them have joined the APC. So they should commend me for doing a good job for them.”
His comments followed the defection of Governors Peter Mbah of Enugu and Douye Diri of Bayelsa, along with former PDP National Youth Leader Sunday Udeh-Okoye, to the APC.
Speaking during the flag-off of the Outer Southern Expressway project in Abuja, Wike also praised President Bola Tinubu for policies that he said have strengthened the economy. “In the past, governors ran from bank to bank to fund projects. Today, banks are the ones running to states,” he said.
Confirming his exit from the PDP, Governor Douye Diri said his decision was based on obvious reasons. Announcing his resignation at Government House, Yenagoa, he stated, “After consultation, I formally resign my membership of the PDP. I am not resigning alone; I am here with the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and members of our party in the Assembly.” Speaker Abraham Ingobere confirmed that 21 of the 24 lawmakers backed the move.”
