All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has faulted Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for criticising Governor Monday Okpebholo’s instruction that members of the State Executive Council wear President Bola Tinubu’s signature cap during a meeting.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement signed by Barrister Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, the APC’s State Publicity Secretary, the party described the reaction of the factional PDP Publicity Secretary, Dan Osa Ogbegie, as “uninformed and unnecessary,” noting that the gesture was a symbolic show of unity with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to APC, the Governor’s action was not an act of subservience but a demonstration of synergy with the federal government’s efforts to restore economic stability, promote national unity, and rekindle citizens’ trust.
The statement explained that Okpebholo’s Shine Agenda mirrors Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by focusing on good governance, infrastructural renewal, agricultural expansion, rural development, youth empowerment, and improved social welfare across Edo State.
APC dismissed the PDP’s criticism as “a desperate attempt by a disorganized opposition to stay relevant,” accusing the party of lacking direction and constructive engagement.
It said the PDP, led by Dr. Tony Aziegbemi’s faction, should focus on resolving its internal leadership crisis rather than attacking a performing government.
“Governor Okpebholo owes his mandate to the good people of Edo State, not to any individual or political godfather. He was chosen by Edo citizens who desired a refreshing departure from the empty noise and stagnation that characterized the previous administration.”
“His focus remains firm delivering on promises, fostering inclusion, promoting transparency, and ensuring every Edo citizen feels the touch of good governance.”
The party maintained that while the PDP drowns in confusion, the APC-led government continues to deliver on its promises by rehabilitating roads, enhancing education and healthcare, strengthening security, and supporting farmers and youths.
APC said Edo people can see the difference between a party that talks and a government that works, emphasising that Okpebholo’s gesture represents a healthy partnership between the state and federal governments built on shared values and collective progress.
The statement concluded, “The Renewed Hope Agenda at the center and the Shine Agenda in Edo are two sides of the same coin and both dedicated to giving Nigerians and Edo people the governance they deserve.”
