APC Slams #FreeNnamdiKanu Protest, Labels It Political Propaganda

Lagos State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has denounced the ongoing #FreeNnamdiKanu protest, describing it as a politically driven campaign by frustrated opposition figures seeking public attention through divisive tactics.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement released on Monday, the party’s spokesperson, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, argued that the protest was not motivated by justice but by reckless politics and desperation.

He maintained that the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), remains a judicial issue best handled by the courts, not by protests or public agitation.

Oladejo accused opposition leaders of exploiting the situation for political gain, alleging that they were insensitive to the pain and suffering of people in the South East who have endured years of violence, kidnappings, and forced sit-at-home orders. According to him, supporting such protests disrespects the memory of victims and disregards the trauma experienced by affected families and communities.

He called on security agencies to remain alert and urged South East leaders and citizens to distance themselves from what he described as the antics of those profiting from national disunity.

Oladejo also praised President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, highlighting its focus on rebuilding the economy, restoring investor confidence, and strengthening national unity.

He said, “While freedom of expression and peaceful assembly are fundamental in any democracy. What we are witnessing is far from a genuine call for justice. It is a calculated display of reckless politics orchestrated by desperate opposition elements who see chaos as their last political weapon.”

The spokesperson added that the demonstrations represent the height of bitter and destructive politics by politicians rejected at the polls and now seeking to exploit national issues for cheap relevance.

Oladejo criticised opposition figures endorsing the protest, likening their actions to the Biblical hand of Jacob but the voice of Esau – a metaphor for deceitful manipulation disguised as activism. He warned that such political actors will not gain in the streets what they have already lost at the ballot box.

APC concluded by reaffirming its belief that progress and national unity can only be achieved through peace, dialogue, and cooperation — not through protests and political unrest.
