The government of People’s Republic of China has expressed gratitude to Nigeria for rescuing four of its nationals who were abducted in Kwara State.

Gatekeepers News reports that the operation, carried out through a coordinated effort of the Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA), Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Army, and Police, successfully freed the kidnapped victims.

The commendation was delivered on Sunday by the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, during the formal handover of the rescued citizens at the DSS medical facility in Abuja.

Represented by Consul Wang Jun, the ambassador praised the Nigerian security agencies for their swift and intelligence-led operation, which ensured the safe recovery of the victims.

The rescued Chinese nationals were identified as Dansu Zhou, Zhou Hai, Zhou Jia Jun, and Fan Xiu Guo. According to reports, the victims were abducted by a gang of seven armed men while en route to a mining site in Saminaka village, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Speaking at the event, Wang Jun also expressed appreciation to the DSS for providing exceptional medical attention to the rescued individuals. He highlighted that the care they received significantly contributed to their recovery and overall well-being.

He added that the Chinese government had not been aware that the DSS operated such an advanced medical facility until the incident occurred.

Xingwei said, “Following their rescue, DSS operatives immediately took our citizens to their facility for medical evaluation. Then they were thoroughly examined by the best professionals before moving them to our embassy in Abuja.”

In recent months, the DSS has intensified efforts to curb criminal activities nationwide, conducting several successful operations that have led to the arrest of syndicates, seizure of arms, and disruption of criminal networks.

One notable operation in Asaba, Delta State, resulted in the interception of seven General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), along with other weapons and ammunition.
