The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has declared its full support for the proposed bill seeking to reserve seats for women in the country’s legislature.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a communiqué issued after its meeting in the early hours of Friday, the forum urged governors to actively engage and lobby members of the National and State Assemblies to ensure the bill’s passage.
The proposed legislation, currently before the National Assembly, seeks to amend the 1999 Constitution to create special constituencies exclusively contested by women. The initiative is aimed at temporarily increasing female representation and participation in governance.
The governors also commended the Federal Government’s ongoing fiscal and monetary policies, particularly those implemented by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), describing them as vital to stabilising the national economy.
They pledged continued collaboration with federal authorities to strengthen economic reforms and improve macroeconomic stability.
Additionally, the forum reaffirmed its commitment to addressing Nigeria’s persistent security challenges. The governors vowed to work closely with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to tackle emerging threats and enhance public safety nationwide.
