Customs Seizes Illicit Drugs Valued At N562.5m

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has confiscated illegal drugs worth N562.5 million in Gbaji area of Badagry, Lagos State.

Gatekeepers News reports that the discovery was made during a stop-and-search operation conducted by officers of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A, Ikeja, along the access road to Seme border.

Comptroller Mohammed Shuaibu, head of the unit, announced the seizure during a handover ceremony at his office on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

He said the interception occurred around 5:00 pm on October 17, 2025, when a patrol team acting on credible intelligence apprehended a suspect identified as Uduak Monday.

The suspect was found with a nylon bag tightly wrapped in sellotape, which, upon inspection, contained 25 kilograms of Ice Crystal Methamphetamine with an estimated street value of N562.5 million.

Shuaibu described the seizure as a demonstration of the unit’s unwavering commitment to combating smuggling in all its forms and emphasised the importance of strong collaboration with other agencies.

The Comptroller noted that the NCS will continue working closely with stakeholders to dismantle smuggling networks in the zone.

The confiscated drugs and suspect were handed over to National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

Receiving the items on behalf of NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive, CN Abubakar Liman, Commander of Narcotics, Lagos State Strategic Command, praised the customs officers for their efforts.

Liman said, “The contributions of the NCS in the ongoing war against drug trafficking are remarkable. We will continue to update the unit as the trial of the suspect progresses in court.”

He also acknowledged the unit for reinforcing the memorandum of understanding between the two agencies.
