Kate Bosede Akomolafe, a 69-year-old woman, has captured public attention after securing admission into University of Ibadan’s Distance Learning Centre (DLC).
Gatekeepers News reports that Akomolafe was among the 5,000 newly admitted students who formally matriculated into the programme on Friday.
According to a post shared by the university on Facebook, she previously worked as a data processing officer at RT Briscoe Motor Company before venturing into pig farming.
The university further revealed that Akomolafe also ran a business distributing baking flour in partnership with Nigerian Eagle Flour Mills. She is now pursuing a degree in Social Work to expand her knowledge and effectively manage her non-governmental organization.
Born on December 22, 1956, Akomolafe completed her secondary education at Government Secondary School, Creek Road, Port Harcourt, in 1976.
In 2024, she returned to write the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the National Examination Council (NECO) exams to obtain the required credits for university admission.
The university described Akomolafe as a mother of four accomplished children — three sons and a daughter — who remains committed to her academic pursuit.
The management added that Akomolafe is undaunted by the task ahead and she is determined to put in her best and aspires to obtain a First Class at the end of her programme.
