Sowore Warns Against Celebrating Trump’s Threat Over Alleged Christian Genocide

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has cautioned Nigerians against celebrating the recent threat made by U.S. President Donald Trump concerning alleged Christian genocide in the country.

Gatekeepers News reports that Trump had on Friday labelled Nigeria as a country of particular concern, accusing the government of failing to act against attacks on Christians.

On Saturday, he went further to warn that the U.S. would withdraw all aid to Nigeria and could even intervene militarily to eliminate the Islamic terrorists responsible for the violence.

Reacting to the statement, Sowore condemned the idea of welcoming such rhetoric, stating that it poses a greater danger to Nigeria’s sovereignty and peace.

He wrote, “The latest threat by U.S. President Donald Trump @POTUS to launch military action in Nigeria, allegedly to protect Christians, may sound appealing to some. Still, history has shown this to be perilous.”

According to Sowore, the U.S. and its allies have a long history of military interventions that often worsen instability rather than resolve it. He added, “They failed to secure peace in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, or Syria, and they won’t bring salvation to Nigeria through bombs or boots on the ground.”

He maintained that Nigeria’s problems require responsible leadership from within, not foreign interference. Sowore said, “What Nigeria needs is legitimate, accountable leadership that protects all citizens, upholds justice, and ends the cycle of corruption and violence that have left the nation broken.”

“Donald Trump does not care about Nigerians or Christians, Muslims, or anyone else.”
