Arsenal’s remarkable 10-match winning streak came to an abrupt end after a late goal from Brian Brobbey earned Sunderland a dramatic 2-2 draw against the Premier League leaders on Saturday.
Gatekeepers News reports that Manchester United also salvaged a point in their own encounter, holding Tottenham to a 2-2 draw courtesy of Matthijs de Ligt’s last-minute header.
At the Stadium of Light, former Arsenal defender Dan Ballard gave Sunderland the lead in the 36th minute with a fierce strike, ending the Gunners’ run of eight consecutive clean sheets.
Arsenal responded through Bukayo Saka, who calmly converted in the 54th minute, before Leandro Trossard fired them ahead with a superb effort from the edge of the box in the 76th minute.
Just when Arsenal seemed poised for their 11th straight victory across all competitions, Brobbey struck in stoppage time, slotting home from Ballard’s header to level the match. It was the first time since September 21, when they drew 1-1 with Manchester City, that Mikel Arteta’s men failed to secure a win.
Despite the setback, Arsenal remain seven points clear at the top, though Manchester City could narrow the gap to four points if they defeat Liverpool at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
A win for Liverpool would instead bring them within five points of the league leaders. Arsenal, chasing their first Premier League crown since 2004, have finished runners-up for the past three seasons and have not lifted a trophy since the 2020 FA Cup.
In north London, Manchester United shared the spoils with Tottenham in an intense clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring for United in the 32nd minute, but Tottenham rallied after halftime. Mathys Tel equalised in the 84th minute, and a deflection off Richarlison gave the hosts a 2-1 advantage in stoppage time.
However, United’s resilience paid off when De Ligt rose highest to head home in the 96th minute, extending his side’s unbeaten streak to five games. The result added to Tottenham’s struggles at home, where they have managed only one victory in six league matches this year.
United, who sit seventh, have now gone eight consecutive games without beating fourth-placed Tottenham, including a 1-0 loss in last season’s Europa League final.
In other results, West Ham boosted their survival hopes with a 3-2 victory over Burnley at the London Stadium. Zian Flemming gave Burnley the lead in the 35th minute, but Callum Wilson levelled just before halftime.
Tomas Soucek put the Hammers ahead in the 77th minute, and Kyle Walker-Peters sealed the win after Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka’s costly error. Although Josh Cullen pulled one back deep into stoppage time, it was too late to spark a comeback.
The victory marked West Ham’s second consecutive win, moving them level on points with Burnley just above the relegation zone.
At Hill Dickinson Stadium, Everton snapped their three-game winless run by beating Fulham 2-0. Idrissa Gueye opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time after James Tarkowski’s header came off the bar, while Michael Keane added a second in the 81st minute from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s corner.
Chelsea will host Wolves later in the day to wrap up Saturday’s fixtures.
