Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has shared fresh reflections on how his timeless hit African Queen became both a turning point and a burden in his career.
Gatekeepers News reports that speaking during a recent interview, the veteran singer explained that while the 2004 classic brought him international fame and solidified his place in African music history, it also became a constant reminder of the high expectations tied to his name.
He said, “African Queen has been a huge blessing, but it also became a bit of a problem for me. I’m grateful for everything, though.”
“I have so many other songs that are just as good and that people connect with. In fact, there are many who love my other songs even more than African Queen.”
Released in 2004, African Queen became an instant continental anthem and helped push Afrobeats to a global audience. Over two decades later, the classic love song still holds its place in history, recently being named by Billboard as the greatest Afrobeats song of all time.
