President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo on his re-election, describing the victory as a reflection of the Governor’s visionary approach to leadership and governance.
Gatekeepers News reports that according to the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), won a landslide victory, securing all 21 local government areas in the state. The outcome makes him the third governor in Anambra’s history to be re-elected for a second term.
In a statement personally signed by him, President Tinubu commended Soludo’s leadership style, noting that the governor’s performance has been marked by innovation, transparency, and efficient management of resources.
The president said, “Governor Soludo, the Solution, has demonstrated that knowledge is indeed power and that academic principles can be applied in serving the people, undergirding accountability, transparency, and prudent management of people and resources.”
“I visited Anambra State in May this year, where I inaugurated some projects executed by the Soludo administration. I highlighted the good thinking behind the landmark projects embarked upon by Mr Solution. That experience is indeed remarkable and will remain indelible in my mind.”
He praised Soludo for bringing “discipline, grace, brilliance, and a fresh perspective” to governance, adding that under his watch, Anambra continues to live up to its reputation as “the Light of the Nation.”
The President urged Governor Soludo to extend a hand of fellowship to his political rivals, emphasizing the need for unity and collective progress. “I urge Governor Soludo to be magnanimous in victory and to seek the cooperation of his opponents in the just-concluded election,” he said.
Tinubu also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to working closely with the Anambra State Government, expressing confidence that their collaboration would yield more development for the state.
The President added, “I assure Governor Soludo of my unwavering support, and I look forward to continued collaboration between Anambra and the Federal Government.”
He further commended the performance of the new INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, and his team, noting that reports from the election indicated it was conducted credibly.
The President urged the electoral body to maintain its high standards and continue improving Nigeria’s democratic process.
Recall that at the INEC state headquarters in Awka on Sunday morning, the State Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Omoregie Edoba, declared Soludo the winner of the poll.
Final results showed that Soludo garnered 422,664 votes, far ahead of his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who secured 99,445 votes. Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) followed with 37,753 votes, while George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP) and John Nwosu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) received 10,576 and 8,208 votes respectively. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Jude Ezenwafor, finished with 1,401 votes.
President Tinubu said Soludo’s triumph not only reflected the confidence of Anambra’s citizens in his leadership but also underscored the resilience of Nigeria’s democratic system, where “a hardworking and progressive leader can always earn the people’s mandate.”
