President Donald Trump has granted sweeping pardons to several of his close allies, including Rudy Giuliani, his former personal attorney, and Mark Meadows, his former chief of staff.
Gatekeepers News reports that the decision absolves them of any federal liability related to their involvement in efforts to challenge the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
According to Ed Martin, the government’s pardon attorney, the official proclamation was made public on Sunday night. It also extends clemency to conservative lawyers Sidney Powell and John Eastman.
The document describes the action as full, complete, and unconditional, while clarifying that the pardon does not apply to Trump himself.
The proclamation further includes Republican figures who acted as alternate electors for Trump in states carried by Biden and are currently facing state-level charges for submitting fraudulent elector certificates.
Calling such prosecutions a grave national injustice perpetrated on the American people, the document states that the pardons are meant to advance the process of national reconciliation.
