Senate Approves Opeyemi Agbaje As Chairman Of PenCom

Senate has confirmed Opeyemi Agbaje as the new chairman of National Pension Commission (PenCom) following the presentation and approval of a list of nominees during Tuesday’s plenary session.

Gatekeepers News reports that confirmation, which took place under the leadership of Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, also included the approval of several national commissioners who will serve on the newly reconstituted PenCom board.

Those confirmed include Hafiz Mohammed Kawu as commissioner for technical (north-west), Samuel Chigizie Nwandu for inspectorate (south-east), Charles Efe Sylvester Emukowate for finance (south-south), and Bello Abubakar Malabu for administration (north-east).

Cyril Oluwole Fasuyi, chairman of Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service, had earlier presented the list of nominees for legislative consideration before their confirmation.

Before his appointment, Agbaje was the chief executive officer of RTC Advisory Ltd. A trained banker and lawyer, he also served as chairman of the Ogun State Security Trust Fund.

Beyond his corporate experience, Agbaje is recognised as a newspaper columnist, policy analyst, and television presenter through his programme The Policy Council. He is also an author and a faculty member at the Lagos Business School.
