The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi’s call for Nigerians to mobilise against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, describing it as a “political hallucination.”
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, and titled “Mobilise Who? A Politician Rejected at Home Cannot Lead a National Revolt,” the party described Amaechi as a “political orphan” who has lost relevance both in his home state and at the national level.
According to the statement, “In Rivers State today, mentioning Amaechi’s name in political discussions is considered a provocative joke. A man who has lost his structure, followers, and voice should not lecture Nigerians on mobilisation.”
The APC said Amaechi lacked the political base to lead any national movement, arguing that “his backyard has padlocked the gate against him.” It accused the former minister of being driven by “bitterness and the humiliation of his 2022 presidential primary loss.”
“While Amaechi is busy trying to resurrect his collapsed career, President Bola Tinubu is delivering tangible results,” the statement read.
It listed several achievements of the Tinubu administration, including the NELFUND initiative to expand access to education, the CREDITCORP programme for small businesses, and rising foreign investment interest from Qatar, the UAE, Europe, and other international partners.
The statement also cited ongoing modernisation of highways, railways, ports, and airports, as well as reforms in agriculture, mining, and security, describing them as evidence that Tinubu is “stabilising Nigeria’s future.”
The Lagos APC argued that even some opposition voters “grudgingly admit” that the president remains far ahead of any potential rival.
“The truth Amaechi avoids is simple: his problem is not Tinubu – his problem is political irrelevance. It is always the loudest losers who shout the most about 2027,” the party said.
“Amaechi cannot preach mobilisation without a platform. Where is his political structure? Where are his followers? Where is his relevance? You cannot give what you don’t have. Amaechi cannot mobilise a nation when he cannot command a polling unit.”
The statement further claimed that Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 was “an unfolding reality” rather than a mere possibility, asserting that “Nigerians will not reward bitterness, betrayal, or political tourism, but leadership, courage, and results — and Tinubu has all three in abundance.”
It concluded with a taunt: “Amaechi should first mobilise himself out of political obscurity. Nigerians are not fools. You don’t defeat a performing president with a disgruntled politician who has lost his home, his base, and his relevance.”
