Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has resolved to dissolve its entire party structure, from the ward up to the state level, in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers.

Gatekeepers News reports that the motion was introduced on Saturday by Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde who argued that the party had already held congresses between 2024 and 2025 to elect new officers at various levels (ward, local government, zonal, state), including national ex-officio members.

According to Makinde, these congresses complied with the Electoral Act 2022, the PDP constitution, and internal party rules and were ratified by both the National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Working Committee (NWC).

Nonetheless, despite that process, the convention formally voted to disband all party organs in those five states:The decision was seconded by Daniel Obiechina Okechukwu, the party’s national auditor and member of the NWC.

One specific reason for the move in Akwa Ibom relates to concerns over loyalty: the PDP’s national leadership claims the state executives had been compromised by their alignment with the Governor, Umo Eno, who defected to All Progressives Congress (APC).   According to PDP’s spokesperson Debo Ologunagba, this situation undermined the integrity of the party in that state.
