Former Kogi Governor Idris Wada Defects To APC

Idris Wada, former Governor of Kogi State, has left Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join All Progressives Congress (APC).

Gatekeepers News reports that Wada received his APC membership card on Saturday at his country residence in Odu, Dekina Local Government Area.

David Alfred-Dogwo, Wada’s media aide, described the brief ceremony as a significant milestone, marking the former Governor’s formal entry into APC and reinforcing the party’s influence in Kogi East Senatorial District.

He said, “The brief but significant ceremony marks Capt. Wada’s formal entry into the APC, signalling a new chapter in his political journey and reinforcing the party’s growing influence in Kogi East Senatorial District.”

The event drew APC leaders, supporters, and well-wishers from across the local government. Alfred-Dogwo noted that Wada’s defection is expected to strengthen the APC’s presence in Dekina and enhance preparations for future elections, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.

Wada governed Kogi State from January 2012 to January 2016 under the PDP platform but lost his bid for re-election. The 2015 election was initially declared inconclusive, leading to a supplementary poll on December 5, 2015.

The death of APC candidate Abubakar Audu on November 22, 2015, a day after the election, led to APC substitute candidate Yahaya Bello being declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
