Kabiru Turaki Becomes PDP National Chairman

Kabiru Turaki (SAN), former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, has been elected as National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Gatekeepers News reports that he emerged winner at the party’s national convention held on Saturday at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, where delegates from 17 states voted to fill key national positions.

Announcing the results, Senator Ben Obi said Turaki secured 1,516 votes, while Senator Yakubu Danmarke received 275. Out of 1,834 total votes cast, 43 were voided.

Solarin Adekunle was also elected as Deputy National Organising Secretary. A total of 3,131 delegates were expected, with 2,745 accredited for the exercise.

In his acceptance speech, Turaki assured party members that he would not betray their trust. He said the PDP remains the party for the Nigerian people and vowed to return control of the organisation to its members, promising an end to impunity.

He pledged to rebuild unity within the PDP and reach out to former members, adding that the party must work to save Nigerian democracy.

Turaki, 54, hails from Kebbi State and is a graduate of the University of Jos. With more than 25 years of legal experience, he previously contested 2011 Kebbi governorship election and later served as a minister under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The convention was attended by several PDP Governors, senior lawmakers, and party leaders.
