All Progressives Congress (APC) has put on hold its reception for Taraba State governor, Agbu Kefas, which had been set to take place on Wednesday.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement released on Tuesday, Felix Morka, the APC’s national publicity secretary, said the party decided to suspend the event in honour of security personnel and civilians recently killed in terrorist attacks.

He also noted that the move was out of respect for victims of recent abductions, including students kidnapped in Kebbi, but did not announce a new date.

“The statement reads, “We salute the courage and sacrifices of our men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line in defence of our liberty and security.”

“As we mourn the death of our dear compatriots, we pray for the safe return of our innocent students taken from their families by forces of evil.”

Morka added that the party sympathises with every family affected by the tragedies and reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to tackling insurgency and banditry. According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration remains determined to bring all perpetrators to justice.

The postponed event was meant to formally welcome Governor Kefas after he revealed on Saturday that he was leaving Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC.

He described his move as one tied to the destiny of Taraba people and hinted that he anticipated a large turnout for the planned ceremony.
